Wills & Estates and Family Lawyer
Since her admission to the Alberta Bar in 2016, Carmen has dedicated her practice to assisting families through challenging periods, focusing on family law matters such as separation and divorce, as well as various estate issues. She provides guidance in applying for Grants of Probate or Administration following the loss of a loved one and drafts precise wills, powers of attorney, and personal directives to ensure clients’ wishes are clearly documented, aiming to prevent future family disputes. Additionally, Carmen is experienced in preparing applications for adult guardianship and trusteeship, including making court submissions related to these matters.
Carmen specializes in assisting families with wealth preservation, intergenerational wealth transfer, and philanthropy through the establishment of various trusts, including inter vivos, testamentary, alter ego, bare, and spousal trusts. She advocates for alternative dispute resolution methods to minimize familial distress during sensitive times, such as divorce, separation, or the loss of a loved one. Carmen has undergone extensive training in collaborative processes and mediation for both family law and estate matters.
